The Story Behind the House

Who We Are

Mat Muller opened Muller Recovery because he lived through the terrifying gap between leaving treatment and learning how to actually live sober. He got sober in his mid-20s and, nearly a decade later, works full-time as a recovery counselor. His foundation is faith. His compass is a growth mindset. His gift is the ability to meet people exactly where they are and create the kind of safety where walls come down, and real transformation begins.

Mat saw what was missing in traditional sober living: genuine connection. Too many places felt institutional or punitive. Guys stayed sober out of fear, not because they were building something worth protecting. Mat wanted something different: a home where sobriety was the foundation for becoming the kind of man you're proud to be.

He leads by example. He shows up, listens, challenges residents when they need it, and celebrates them when they earn it. He doesn't coddle, but he doesn't shame. Residents trust Mat because he's been where they are and knows what it takes to come out the other side stronger.

"I opened this sober house because I've seen how hard it is to stay sober once treatment ends. You leave a structured environment and suddenly you're on your own, trying to figure out how to live without the thing that's been your solution for years. I wanted to create a place where guys could land softly, build real friendships, and learn how to do life sober with people who actually get it."
— Mat Muller, Founder

Our mission

Making a House a Home

Muller Recovery provides a safe, sober, and supportive environment where men in early recovery can build real connections, practice accountability, and grow into the kind of men they want to be. We don't just help people stay sober. We help them build a life worth staying sober for.

What that looks like:

That's what we're building here. Not just sobriety. A foundation for everything that comes after.

Our Core Values

Pillar One:  Fellowship: Connection That Heals

Recovery happens around the dinner table, in late-night conversations, and in celebrating the small wins. At Muller Recovery, fellowship is the heartbeat of the house.

What fellowship looks like:

  • Cooking meals together, sharing stories, laughing over inside jokes
  • Showing up for each other's meetings because it matters
  • Sitting with someone who's struggling and just being present
  • Celebrating milestones: sobriety anniversaries, new jobs, personal breakthroughs

Residents aren't just roommates. They're brothers who know each other's stories, triggers, and dreams. That kind of connection doesn't just help you stay sober. It reminds you why you're doing this.

Pillar Two:  Accountability: The Kind That Comes From Love

Accountability here isn't about punishment. It's about caring enough to tell the truth, even when it's uncomfortable.

How accountability shows up:

  • Regular house meetings where everyone checks in, not just about sobriety, but about life, goals, struggles, and progress
  • Drug testing that keeps everyone honest and the environment safe
  • Clear expectations around work, meetings, and house responsibilities because structure creates freedom
  • Calling each other out when someone's slipping, not to shame them, but to pull them back before they fall
  • Regular house meetings where everyone checks in on life, goals, and struggles

Accountability isn't harsh here. It's loving. It's what keeps everyone moving forward. And residents learn that being held accountable isn't a burden, it's a gift. It's proof that people care enough to not let you settle for less than you're capable of.

What residents learn through accountability:

  • How to keep commitments to themselves and others
  • That integrity isn't about being perfect, it's about owning your mistakes and making them right
  • That real freedom comes from discipline, not from doing whatever you want
  • That people who hold you accountable aren't your enemies, they're your greatest allies

Pillar Three: Growth: Becoming the Man You Want to Be

Sobriety is the foundation. Growth is the goal. We want guys to become men who are confident, capable, and grounded.

Growth happens in every area:

  • Work: Holding jobs, showing up on time, developing reliability
  • Relationships: Communicating honestly, setting boundaries, repairing trust
  • Financial Responsibility: Budgeting, saving, managing money like an adult
  • Emotional Maturity: Sitting with uncomfortable feelings, processing pain without numbing

This isn't about perfection. It's about progress. When a guy walks out of Muller Recovery, he's not just sober. He's equipped, confident, and ready.

How the Program Works

Muller Recovery is a peer-driven sober living home for men ages 18-35 who are committed to their recovery and ready to do the work.

What makes us different:

  • Structured environment: Regular house meetings, drug testing, and 12-step meeting requirements keep everyone accountable and on track.
  • Real-world responsibilities: Residents work jobs, pay bills, and develop life skills in a supportive setting.
  • Structured environment with regular meetings, drug testing, and 12-step requirements
  • Real-world responsibilities: residents work jobs, pay bills, and develop life skills
  • Residential recovery support where guys integrate recovery into daily life
  • Peer-driven model built on mutual respect and shared experience

What daily life looks like: Mornings start with purpose. Guys head to work or meetings. Throughout the day, they attend 12-step meetings, handle responsibilities, and check in with each other. Evenings bring everyone back together for dinner, house meetings, and connection. Structure holds it all: regular drug testing, meeting requirements, house responsibilities, and clear expectations around sobriety and respect.

The journey: The First month is an adjustment. Three to six months brings growth and confidence. Six months to a year is a transformation, where residents are thriving and mentoring newer guys.

Why peer-driven works: Because the guys living here get it. When accountability comes from a brother who's walked the same path, it's not authoritarian. It's authentic. And that's what makes it stick.

God's timing couldn't have been better."  — AZ Haneef

Our Vision for Growth

By This Time Next Year:

Another house up and running with at least 5 residents. 10-12 residents total between both houses.

Why it matters: More men getting the support they need. Proof that this model works and can scale. A stronger network of guys supporting each other across multiple locations.

In 3 Years:

3 total houses serving 20+ men in early recovery.

In 5 Years:

Expansion to multiple houses across the region or development of a flagship property on land that can serve up to 15 men at a time: a place that becomes the model for what peer-driven sober living can be.

We're building the standard for peer-driven recovery.

A model where men from all over come to rebuild their lives, and other organizations can learn from and replicate what works. A network of homes where men get the support, structure, and accountability they need to make recovery last.
